Bridging Cultures, Building Disciples - DUBAI

by Shahid Masih

As I stepped into the warm and welcoming living room in Dubai, I was greeted by a group of eager faces from UAE. We had gathered for a special time of connection, sharing, and vision-casting. Though we were miles away from home, the bonds of faith and ministry brought us together in this vibrant city.

I shared the heart of ministry for Disciplers International (DI), which is a vision of empowering believers to make disciples who make disciples (2 Timothy 2:2). I was pleased to see their eyes light up as we explored the possibilities of spreading this movement in Dubai by putting this vision into practice.

Expressing my desire to start a DI ministry in the UAE, I enjoyed a enthusiastic response from the group. We discussed how this ministry could bridge cultures, build relationships, and strengthen the body of Christ in dynamic city.

Our visit to Dubai was more than a cultural exchange – it was a step toward a greater mission. As we parted, there was a shared sense of purpose and anticipation. We left with a commitment to pray, plan and partner in this discipleship journey through DI.

The Masih Family

Shahid and Lubna are a committed and God-fearing family who have dedicated their lives to fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.

With a deep burden for souls, Pastor Shahid has placed before God a vision of 100,000 souls being won for Christ. In obedience to this calling, both he and Lubna are faithfully serving through the ministry of DI in Pakistan, focusing on raising strong, trained, and committed disciples for the Kingdom of God.

We regularly conduct vision-casting meetings, followed by Step-by-Step discipleship training sessions to equip believers and church leaders in various cities across Pakistan. Our heart is not only to see many people saved, but also lives transformed, leaders developed, and nations impacted for Christ.

Step-by-Step Discipleship Process

The Process is a well-structured “experience” designed to effectively equip believers to disciple others in small groups (2 to 4 but no more).

In this series of photos, disciples-in-training are prayerfully and diligently preparing for their oral exam, which is an assessment to ensure that each one clearly understands the training received. Upon successful completion of the exam, disciples are commissioned to teach and train others, multiplying the work of discipleship and strengthening the body of Christ. Through this process, Disciplers International continues to raise faithful, well-equipped leaders who are ready to serve and train others for God’s glory.

Pastors Philip Gill and Ejaz Javed are actively engaged in Bible Study with Shahid (on the right). These men are dedicated to growing spiritually in Christ and faithfully discipling others.

This series of photos are an example of a wide variety of people in a wide variety of settings from all age groups and backgrounds, who are being impacted by the Step-by-Step training provided through Disciplers International. This is the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ in action, and we give glory to God!

Bart Physioc

Bart’s interest in discipleship began at the time of his conversion in 1978, while serving in Guam as a Coast Guard officer. After reading the four gospels in the New Testament, Bart was moved to accept Jesus as Savior and follow Him as Lord. He wanted to be a disciple, but didn’t understand how discipleship was supposed to work, and no one took the initiative to mentor him. Bart’s early discipleship experience was limited to reading books on the subject and going through study guides. Although examples were evident throughout Scripture, but Bart did not have such an experience personally.

While attending Golden Gate Theological Seminary in California, Bart took several courses on discipleship. From those classes, he took the most useful and practical elements of each model and produced a guidebook of his own that was comprehensive in scope, yet concise in presentation. After graduating in 1983 with a Master of Religious Education degree, Bart spent three years developing a discipleship model specifically for college students at the University of Idaho, where he served as Campus Minister. Upon returning to Golden Gate Seminary for his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees, Bart tailored the discipleship model for church plants and then instituted that model in the church he planted and pastored in California. As an Army Chaplain, Bart used the Discipler/Disciple model which led many service members to Christ and provided new believers with a set of tools to disciple others.

Convinced that disciple-making requires a relationship between a mentor (“Discipler”) and learner (“Disciple”), Bart created the 14-Step Discipleship Process, which was launched in 2000 and has been used worldwide to grow Disciples of Christ into Disciplers for Christ. In 2022 he launched a new presentation of the discipleship process called Step-by-Step.

While still serving in the military, Bart helped to establish Disciplers International in 2006 to provide free Discipleship Resources and Training for all who follow Jesus, and obey His call to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
